Diversity Matters
for New Medicines

BRIDGE is a collaborative initiative to improve diversity and representation in clinical trials.

Why does it matter?

1.
It makes medicines better for all people.

Medicines can work differently for different races and ethnicities. We need to understand these differences early (in clinical trials), before we make the medicine available for everyone.

Yet, certain minority communities have been heavily underrepresented in clinical trials. This presents a significant health equity issue.
2.
More people having access to research options is a good thing.

More people can contribute to the future of medicine. And for certain illnesses, clinical trials may be a potentially life-changing option.

Long Term Commitment is Needed

This is a complex, multi-layered problem. We want to tackle this the right way and will stand by this commitment for as long as it takes.

Long-lasting improvements will require conversations and understanding from all sides. For example, we are working with individuals in diverse communities to help them explore how they would like to hear about clinical trials. At the same time, we’re working with the biopharma companies and researchers to help them explore how they can better reach diverse communities.

BRIDGE Objectives

1 - Understand the Gap

Build a robust understanding, both qualitative and quantitative, of the barriers to underrepresented minority groups participating in clinical trials.

2 - Build the Bridge

Deliver solutions that overcome these barriers, so clinical trials are more representative of the patient populations they aim to treat.

Care Access is devoting
its capabilities to this mission
More communities knowing about clinical trials and having the option to participate is a key step forward. Care Access partners with community organizations and healthcare providers to bring awareness and access to underserved and often-forgotten communities, wherever they may be. This includes enabling community leaders to bring awareness about trials and local healthcare professionals to operationalize the clinical efforts.

Community Partners

We partner with healthcare providers, clinics & hospitals, and community leaders & organizations to bring health education and clinical research to your patients and community members. If you are interested in learning how you can make clinical trials an option for the people in your community, we would love to hear from you.

Research Sponsors

We partner with research sponsors to help you identify the barriers to engaging more diverse patient populations and actually implement solutions that bring your clinical trials to traditionally underrepresented communities. If you are working on these types of problems at a biopharmaceutical company, we would love to hear from you.

Careers

BRIDGE is a long-term initiative that will require dedication, problem solving, creativity, and energy from a large team of mission-oriented individuals to reach our goals. If you want to get involved, let us know. We need your help.

Why we launched the BRIDGE Initiative

As we looked at what needs to be done to bring representation and inclusion to clinical trials, we reached two conclusions. (1) While we all want a quick solution, this is a complex, multi-layered problem that will require significant resource commitments over the next decade if we want to achieve meaningful, long-lasting improvements. (2) We recognized that we are uniquely positioned to do work that can make an impact on this problem. We see what needs to be done, and we have a way to contribute, so we have the responsibility to act.
